Federal agencies are collaborating to develop a comprehensive roadmap for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), aiming to accelerate its production and adoption across the U.S. aviation industry. Spearheaded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Agency, the initiative focuses on advancing feedstock innovation, refining technologies and supporting policies to meet the nation’s ambitious SAF targets.
With a goal of producing 3 billion gallons of SAF annually by 2030 and achieving net-zero aviation emissions by 2050, the roadmap highlights the critical role of agriculture in supplying feedstocks like oilseeds and waste biomass. Industry leaders see this as a significant opportunity for farmers and biofuel producers to drive sustainability while boosting rural economies.
