On October 7, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) released the 28th Crop Progress report of the 2024 growing season.
The USDA said as of Oct. 6, 90% of the soybean crop in the top 18 growing states was dropping leaves. This was up from 81% the week prior and ahead of the five-year average 85%. Across all the top growing states, 47% of the crop was harvested. This was up from 26% the week prior and ahead of the five-year average 34%. According to the report, the condition of the soybean crop in the top growing states as of Oct. 6 was as follows:

Soybean oil is the leading feedstock used for biodiesel and renewable diesel production. The biodiesel and renewable diesel industry consumed an estimated 12.491 billion pounds of soybean oil in 2022–2023. This is up from 10.379 billion pounds in 2021–2022.
