Southwest Detroit Environmental Vision has been busy at work on air quality projects with business and industry partners to lower emissions and contaminants with the goal of reducing asthma in the region. For two years in a row, Detroit has been listed as the worst city to live in if you have a breathing ailment, and over half of Detroit Public Schools students are considered chronically absent with health and pollution-related illnesses at the top of the list.
In 2023, SDEV has initiated over 17 projects to reach families and students, and to assist business and industry in accessing grants to purchase newer, less polluting equipment or trucks, all to improve air quality in our region. SDEV is excited to share funding resources and updates and introduce you to our partners like Detroit 2030, The Detroit/Wayne County Port Authority, Indigenous Energy, and Michigan Clean Cities to resources for businesses like yours!
The mixer will be hosted by Elias Gutierrez, President of Latino Press, at their offices from 6-8 PM on November 8th. We invite you and your team members to join us for decarbonization project updates, grant resources, light dinner fare, beer, and wine.

Becoming a Healthy Business Member will help SDEV raise gap funds to support the following projects:
Charge-Up Detroit!: Assisting residents with a landbank purchase for a resident-designed and developed mobility and sustainability solution for the neighborhood.
Healthy Business Program: Helping dozens of companies by lowering operating costs through implementing energy usage reduction projects and other sustainable measures like tree plantings to reduce fugitive dust, rain garden installations to improve aesthetics and reduce flooding, and grants to upgrade older fleets to cleaner fuel vehicles.
Community Outreach in Southwest Detroit by connecting neighbors, residents and students to air quality resources like anti-idling and asthma education and cost-saving partners for energy audits and grant-funded heat pumps for families in Southwest Detroit. To date, SDEV has reached over 600 SW Detroit residents and planted 147 trees with residents in 2023.
